Web Testing

On Tuesday our web team stayed late to conduct web testing on our new OM USA website. We had several non-OMers come in and sit at a computer with one of our team members who prompted them to venture through the site, try to accomplish certain tasks on the site, and think aloud throughout the whole process. Carsten, our electronic wizard, set up another monitor in another room where we could watch the computer screen of the tester, see their face, and hear them talk throughout the whole process.

Wow! We learned a lot! It was so interesting (and painful) to see an outsider fail to find key information on our site. All the information is there, we just need to rearrange it and make it easier for the outsider to find. Throughout the entire process of arranging content on the site we tried to make it as obvious as possible for the outside user. Testing just showed us that what's obvious to us isn't necessarily obvious to an outsider. Very valuable information!
