camping adventures!

We love hiking and being outdoors... and have wanted to go camping together since we were married... but we never seemed to get around to it. We even got a tent (that we asked for) for a wedding gift!

This weekend we finally did it. We went to Red Top Mountain State Park just north of Atlanta. Our first camping trip was definitely an adventure! We knew the weather wouldn’t be perfect, but had no idea we would be sleeping in a tent the night Atlanta faced some of the worst weather in its history!

As you probably saw on the news, tornados ripped through downtown Atlanta, hitting the CNN center, the Georgia Dome, and many other Atlanta landmarks. We had no sooner tucked into our little dome tent when the storm reached us—pouring rain, blinding lightning, and deafening thunder! But as our tent stayed dry, we stayed put! We enjoyed the ride and, now that we know how bad the storm actually was, are very grateful for God’s protection! But the weekend was quite enjoyable. We love being outside in God’s creation. We had time on Friday afternoon for some mini-hikes.

Saturday the rangers told us that more bad weather was heading our way, so headed to a nearby town, Cartersville, to wait out the storm. We sheltered in a museum and later discovered our location was only a quarter mile from where tornados touched down and caused quite some devastation.

Sunday was beautiful! We took a hike along the lake, and settled down to read our books on a beach. A peaceful end to a meteorological adventure!

Thankfully, no damage was done at OM or our church. Thank you to everyone who called to see if we were OK and prayed for us! We felt so blessed and loved!

We had our own private lagoon! We walked down the hill from our tent to this beautiful spot to watch the sunset one evening and read our books in the afternoon.

Edgar getting sunburned once the sun finally came out.
