We camped on Cumberland Island for 4 nights. An adventure! We had to carry all our stuff on to the ferry for an hour trip to the island where we unloaded all of our stuff into over sized wheelbarrows! Then we ventured to our campsite in paradise. The island is beautiful. It's 14 miles long. We could walk the Forest and beach for hours without seeing another human. But there is a huge variety of wild life! We saw dolphins, WILD horses (everywhere!), adorable armadillos, giant lizards, a variety of birds, big snakes, crabs and many shells, and tons of different bugs and butterflies.
We had to pack in everything we needed and pack out all of our trash. There are NO stores on the island. In our frugal packing we decided to take only one sleeping bag in case it was cold, no pillows, and our luxurious air mattress! One problem, the air mattress refused to stay inflated! So we slept on the hard ground every night... and the nights were cold so we couldn't use our sleeping bag as padding!
The beach was amazing. Only a hand full of people at a time, spread out on the wide empty sand. One day we went hiking and ended up walking for 8 hours or more! We must have walked about 16 miles. We walked through the forest to one of the Carnegie mansions. It was there during our picnic lunch that we turned our cell phones on, found a signal, and got the message that our latest house offer had been accepted! YAY! We were so excited and thankful. We really did not expect them to accept our low offer. Praise God! So that was a very special day. Then we walked the whole way home along the beach. The whole day we only saw a few other people. Most of the time we walked for hours without seeing anyone. We had a great day completely surrounded by God's creation.

Our entire trip in Savannah and Cumberland was SO nice... rejuvinating... and inspiring!
